Ethical Behavior and Organizational Innovation: Analysis of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Latvia

2018

Abstract Innovations can provide small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) a significant competitive advantage considering the ambiguous business environment. SMEs may face lower capacity and more constrained funding for long-term investments, however, understanding innovation in a broader sense and looking into organizational structures, behaviors and processes, SMEs have an opportunity to become more competitive. This study analyzes the impact of ethical behavior as a part of an organizational culture on organizational innovation performance in SMEs. Six hundred SMEs in Latvia were surveyed to assess whether employees follow the principles of business ethics in their work and what is the …

Ethical culture and moral identity: how they interact and influence unethical behavior in organizations

2021

Ethical Culture and Management

2022

An unfortunate marker of the current times is the scale of unethical behavior and corporate corruption committed by business leaders. A powerful antecedent of unethical behavior is organizational culture. This chapter discusses what constitutes and drives an ethical culture. It defines the concept of ethical culture and reviews different approaches that have been used to measure ethical culture in organizations. The Corporate Ethical Virtues model is reviewed in more detail as one example of a reliable and valid way to operationalize ethical organizational cultures. Finally, specific management strategies to maintain and minimize potential threats to an ethical culture are also provided. pe…

Honest mistake or perhaps not: The role of descriptive and injunctive norms on the magnitude of dishonesty

2021

Trivial acts of dishonesty are very prevalent in everyday life and have severe economic and societal consequences. The present study aims to examine the role of descriptive and injunctive norms in minor and major dishonesty under ambiguity. We devised a novel experimental design in which rule violations can be the result of honest mistakes or various dishonest processes. In this ambiguous context, we observed a high prevalence of minor rule violations at baseline. In two experiments, exposure to increased peer cheating (i.e., negative descriptive norms) promoted major rule violations, whereas the presence of explicit or subtle rule reminders (i.e., injunctive norms) marginally reduced minor…

Does doing good do well? An investigation into the relationship between consumer buying behavior and CSR

2022

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has emerged globally as an important field of study as corporations increasingly recognize the positive consequences of ethical behavior in their business operations. However, despite a growing body of literature, results and definitions remain somewhat contradictory and fractured. Taking a marketing business ethics perspective, this article examines the influence of CSR in firms and its impact on consumer buying behavior through a systematic examination of state of the art literature over the past two decades (2000–2020). Our review identifies a theoretical connection between CSR initiatives and positive consumer reaction yet a lack of material relevan…
